Florida Teen Attacked By Barracuda While Fishing

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – What was supposed to be a fun day for a father-son fishing trip, resulted in a trip to the hospital after a 13-year-old boy encountered a Barracuda in Florida.

"I was on the side of the boat fishing probably right there," said the father Irwin King.

King and his teenage son Parker were out about 19 miles from shore Sunday afternoon when they spotted the barracuda.

"We seen him and he was big," said King. "We thought 'this should be a fun little fight,' but it wasn't," said King.

That fish fight quickly turned into a fight for Parker's life.

"Within a split second he went from there, to up over the boat," said King.

The fish nailed the boy so hard to the boat that he ended up having to go to the hospital later.

The two were so far away from shore so the actual challenge was getting Parker to the hospital.

With no phone reception and the barracuda still in tow, it was a race to get help.

"He's still flopping and the back of the boat started going. I mean it was a bouncy ride," said King. "I really didn't care. I didn't care if parts were flying off the boat or anything; I just wanted to get him [Parker] in."

Parker had a towel wrapped around his arm and chest for the rest of the ride.

"I was praying he wasn't going to run out of blood," said King.

A few staples and stitches later, Parker is out of the hospital and recovering from a rough fight.

"The fish won on that one, you know, he got us," said King. "He got Parker."

That nearly cost him his life.

"He was a champ...I mean he was a champ," said King.
