Teen Charged In Deadly MDC Crash
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A 16 year old boy had been charged in a fiery crash that killed one person, injured three and damaged a building at Miami-Dade College's Liberty City campus.
Stanley Georges faces charges including one count of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident with death, leaving the scene with injuries, leaving the scene with property damage and driving without a license.
Police say Georges fled on foot after the crash and when he arrived home, his family members called Miami-Dade Fire Rescue due to his injuries. He reportedly claimed he was injured during a fight. He was treated and released from the hospital, but his stepmother gave permission to have him taken to the police station because of his suspected involvement in the crash.
The teen initially denied being involved, but eventually confessed to being behind the wheel. He blamed the crash on a steering malfunction.
The teen also admitted to investigators that he did not have a driver's license.
The crash happened just before 12:30 Tuesday morning.
Witnesses told police the 2013 silver Lincoln sedan was speeding down NW 7th Avenue when the driver lost control to avoid hitting a bus stop where people were standing.
The car, according to witnesses, may have been going as fast as 100 mph.
A check of the car found it had been reported stolen on August 18th from an address in North Miami.
All daytime classes at the center were cancelled for Tuesday because of clean-up and an inspection of the
Police said there is no evidence that the driver was drunk or high, but confirmed speed was a factor.
