Teen Charged In Connection With Deadly Miami Gardens Shooting
HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) – Miami Gardens Police have identified the teen taken into custody in connection with the shooting deaths of a young couple in a gas station robbery in Miami Gardens.
Eric Ellington, 16, was arrested Tuesday at his aunt's house 1400 block of 64th Avenue in Hollywood, according to CBS4 News partner The Miami Herald.
Ellington faces two counts of second degree murder in the deaths of Julian Soler, 23, and Kennia Duran, 24.
"We know he was one of the shooters," said Miami Gardens Police Sgt. Bill Bamford.
On Monday July 25th, Soler and Duran were both shot to death while gassing up Soler's 1997 Ford Mustang Cobra at 16691 NW 57th Ave. It was around 12:38 a.m. when they were ambushed, forced out of the car and shot. The shooting was captured on surveillance video from the gas station.
The video shows two suspects in an older model Nissan Pathfinder pulling up next to Soler on the other side of the gas pump.
As Soler got back into his car, he was confronted by a man from the Pathfinder pointing a gun at him. Another man can be seen on the video pointing a gun at Duran. As the two got out of the car, the gunmen opened fire.
The video then shows the armed men getting back into the Pathfinder and speeding away. The Pathfinder, which had been torched, was found later.
Soler died on the pavement next to his car. Duran was rushed to the Ryder Trauma Center where she died. Duran leaves behind a 6-year-old son.
Police said they are searching for three, possibly four, subjects.
