Teen Arrested In Connection To Broward Crime Spree
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) -- A teenager is facing burglary charges after police say he went on a crime spree across Broward County.
Police say they located the 16-year-old Fort Lauderdale resident after one of his victims allegedly caught him in the act.
Debbie Breton says she arrived at her home on Northeast 21st Street in Fort Lauderdale home on the afternoon of January 19 and found a masked suspect running toward his car, which was parked on her driveway.
Breton said the teen suspect had tried to smash a glass door using a window punch tool. When that did not work, he threw pots at it, but he couldn't break the hurricane proof glass. She is not sure if he fled because he failed to get inside, or because he heard her get home.
She told CBS4's Gaby Fleischman, when she saw the masked man running toward his car she was so afraid she just got out of the way, got the tag number of the car and called the police.
"I looked up and the guy was running out of my backyard, to his car with a full white hood on with just the eyes and the mouth and freaked me out," said Breton.
Police were able to locate the vehicle and took the suspect into custody.
When they interviewed the suspect, he allegedly provided them with information for a total of eight residential burglaries that he committed within the county.
The teen suspect has been released on bond.
