Tebow Legend Failing Quickly
DENVER, Colo. (CBSMiami.com) – Former University of Florida Gators quarterback Tim Tebow got a second rude awakening into the National Football League on Sunday.
Tebow, who had staged a miraculous comeback against the woeful Miami Dolphins a week earlier, played poorly in a 45-10 demolition by the Detroit Lions.
The Denver media wasted no time in piling on Tebow's completely ineffective performance against the Lions.
"Please, in the name of heaven, bring us somebody who can actually play quarterback," wrote Mark Kiszla in the Denver Post. "Tebow might be a spectacular physical specimen, but he is not an NFL quarterback."
An anonymous Lions defender told Yahoo! Sports' Mike Silver that Tebow was a "joke."
"Can you believe '15'?" one Detroit Lions told Silver. "Come on – that's embarrassing. I mean, it's a joke. We knew all week that if we brought any kind of defensive pressure, he couldn't do anything. In the second half it got boring out there. We were like, 'Come on – that's your quarterback? Seriously?'"
The Detroit gameplan was simple: make Tebow beat them by throwing in the pocket. Tebow's legs can help him out, but if he's made to throw from the pocket, he's overmatched and underqualified to pull it off.
Just how atrocious has Tebow been? He's completing 46 percent of his passes; thrown 1 interception; and 2 fumbles on the season.
His quarterback rating of 75.1 would be ranked 28th, but he's not attempting enough passes per game to qualify for the overall quarterback rating, according to ESPN.com.
But, Denver Broncos head coach John Fox doesn't have much of a choice and will stick with Tebow when the team takes on the Oakland Raiders.
"He's a young quarterback, we're getting to know him better and he's getting to know the offense, with each one of those snaps," Fox told the Denver Post. "I think at the end of the day, we have to see if he can improve and get better in the passing game."
Unfortunately for Tebow and Broncos fans, the team can't play a team as bad as the Dolphins every week.
And so far, all evidence continues to show that Tebow should consider changing to a fullback/h-back position if he wants to stay in the NFL.
