TD Bank In Ft. Lauderdale Going For "Platinum" Status
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - More than 400 solar panels are being installed on a new TD Bank in Ft. Lauderdale. When the installation is completed late Tuesday the building, located at 665 NW 62nd Street, will be the first net-zero energy bank in the U.S., meaning it produces all the energy it needs on site.
The new TD Bank was designed to target the highest certification level of LEED, an internationally recognized green building certification system certification. To achieve the LEED Platinum status, the building has to meet a number of factors including sustainability, water efficiency, energy efficiency and wise of materials in construction to keep waste at a minimum.
Only eight buildings in the nation are registered as net-zero energy buildings with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and TD Bank will the first to register a net-zero energy bank. The new TD Bank store will also be the first net-zero energy building in Florida to be registered with the DOE.
