TD # 9 Forms Over SW Gulf Of Mexico

MIAMI (CBSMiami)--Tropical depression nine (TD #9) formed in the southwest Gulf of Mexico Tuesday evening as thunderstorms near the well defined low pressure center became better organized.

At 10:00 p.m., TD #9 was located West-southwest of Campeche, Mexico with  maximum sustained winds at 35 miles per hour.

The government of Mexico has issued a tropical storm warning from Celestun to Frontera.

The depression is forecast to strengthen into tropical storm Hanna before reaching the Yucatan peninsula Wednesday night.

After that, the system is forecast to move into the western Caribbean and either dissipate or be absorbed by a weekend cold front.

At this time the depression poses no immediate threat to South Florida but the system will need to be watched over the weekend in case it does not dissipate as forecast by the National Hurricane Center.
