TD 14 Forms In Far Eastern Atlantic
MIAMI (CBS4) – As the eastern U.S. seaboard and Bermuda keeps a close on Hurricane Katia, there's a new tropical depression on the horizon.
The National Hurricane Center said at 11 p.m., the center of Tropical Depression #14 was located about 995 miles west-southwest of the Cape Verde Islands. The system had maximum sustained winds of 35 mph as it moved to the west-northwest at 18 mph. The general motion is expected to continue over the next 48 hours along with some strengthening.
The National Hurricane Center predicts the depression could strengthen into a tropical storm on Wednesday. If so, it will be called Maria.
There are currently no watches or warnings in effect for this storm.
