HOLLYWOOD (CBS4) -- The cab driver who died Friday morning after the taxi he was driving crashed into a Hollywood home has been identified as Jean Elie Charles, according to Hollywood Police spokesman Lt. Manny Marino.

Charles, 26, of Lauderdale Lakes was southbound on 56th Avenue at about 3 a.m. Nov. 26 when for an unknown reason veered off the road, smashed through a fence and crashed through the wall of Malcom Smith's home.

Luckily no one was home when the cab went smashing through the wall, pushing a bed against the wall. The Smith family had spent the holiday night with relatives in Coral Springs. Had they been home, their teenaged son could have been sleeping in the room where the cab came through the wall.

Charles was taken to the hospital following the crash, where he was pronounced dead.
