Tampa Skyscraper Workers Told To Stay Home During Republican Convention
TAMPA (CBSMiami/AP) – Workers in one of Tampa's tallest downtown highrises have been given some advice for the week of the Republican National Convention: stay home if you can.
That's the recommendation for work in the 31-story Rivergate Tower, popularly known as the Beer Can Building because of its perfectly cylindrical shape.
Rivergate Tower isn't the only building that's affected by the convention. Hillsborough County officials plan to close the Fred B. Karl County Center, also in downtown Tampa, for two weeks from Aug. 20 until after Labor Day. County services will be offered at satellite offices during the convention.
The Republican National Convention will be held Aug. 27-30 in downtown Tampa.
