Tamarac Home Invasion Suspect Arrested
TAMARAC (CBSMiami) — A man accused of a home invasion at a Tamarac home has been arrested by the Broward County Sheriff's Office.
Clifford Proctor, 29, is charged with home invasion without a firearm or weapon.
According to the Broward County Sheriff's Office, Proctor ambushed Brittany Taylor as she was attempting to go into her home on NW 58th Court, August 23.
Once inside, Proctor is accused of attacking Taylor, punching her and pushing her to the floor.
Taylor reportedly was able to get to her mace can that she carries for self-defense and use it on Proctor.
According to deputies, Proctor backed away after being sprayed giving Taylor time to run to the bathroom and lock the door.
An arrest affidavit stated Proctor tried to kick in the door to get to Taylor.
Eventually, Taylor told police she heard the home become quiet again and she came out of the bathroom to find her iPhone taken along with her purse and a duffle bag.
The arrest affidavit said Taylor recognized Proctor and did not initially call police because she was afraid he would retaliate against her.
After the alleged home invasion, the affidavit describes Proctor taking the duffle bag to an acquaintance's home and leaving it with the two people there.
The following day, Proctor was confronted outside of his aunt's home near the home invasion and attacked by three unknown men, according to BSO.
He ran away and reportedly went to the acquaintance's home again and asked the two people there for the bag.
The acquaintances thought Proctor's actions could be suspicious and called BSO.
While at the home, Proctor reportedly drove by and was identified.
BSO deputies discovered Taylor's items in the duffle bag and contacted her to learn about the unreported home invasion.
Proctor was arrested and identified as the man believed to be responsible for the crime.
Taylor had cuts and scratches as a result of the attack according to the arrest affidavit.
