MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Welcome to Lyon Freres Petit Marche, or Lyon Brothers small market. Lyon Frere is named after the French-foodie-driven city, Lyon, and is the French version of owner and Chef Ken Lyon's last name. He and his brother also have a catering business. This chef-curated market is off 16 and Alton Road on Miami Beach.
"When I'm looking around and see the salads and sandwiches—I can see it has a European flair," said CBS4's Lisa Petrillo.
"Yes, in Paris--or anywhere in Europe for that matter--if you walk into a shop, it's called a "marche." It's a catering shop. A shop you go into to take food home and that's exactly what we do," Lyon said.
From the gourmet cheeses, to the hams and cured meats of every kind, plus soups salads, Lyon Frere has it all—even homemade ice cream.
Lyon Freres is a neatly organized market that also offers in-house and outside dining, but it's not meant to be a real restaurant.
"We want them to come for breakfast, we have great coffee, great pastry. We want them to come for lunch to grab a salad or sandwich and we want them to come at night and take food home. We have great soups, roast chickens, we have all your favorite foods to eat, and we prepare it for you to take home," Lyons said.
Petrillo took a taste of the takeout food:
First up…a cheese plate sure to tempt the taste buds with cheeses from Italy, Utah, Minnesota and many more. Petrillo's first taste was a cheese from Vermont.
"I love this cheese. It's sharp and light and has a nutty flavor, Petrillo said.
There's a delicate country pate made with duck, pork, pistachios and cherries.
"I feel like I'm in a European bistro somewhere and I can take it all home with me," Petrillo said.
A lovely side dish is the celery root remoulade, made with capers in a tarragon sauce.
'It has so much flavor and is super light," she said after tasting.
The curry chicken is tender and tasty.
"I can taste raisins and cilantro and then the chicken in super tender. It's a really nice curry chicken"
The kale Caesar is soft and fresh. The rotisserie chicken is marinated in a Mediterranean rub.
"I'm tasting a really Mediterranean flavor and there's a lemony feel as well"
Petrillo's not so "petite" meal ends with Ken's homemade vanilla ice cream—which is then topped with espresso.
Lyon Freres, where a bit of France has landed on Alton Road, should have you saying "Je reviendrai" or, I will return.
Lyon Freres is open 6 days a week from 6 AM until midnight.
