Syracuse Continues At #1 In AP Basketball Poll
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The Syracuse Orange continued to dominate the world of college basketball this week, coming in at number one in the Associated Press college basketball poll for the second straight week.
Syracuse is one of two undefeated teams left in Division I basketball this season. The Orange (23-0) received all 65 first-place votes from the media panel.
Following the Orange was: Arizona, Florida, Wichita State, San Diego State, and Villanova. The Shockers of Wichita State are the only other undefeated team in Division I.
Kansas moved up one spot to seventh and Duke jumped three spots to eighth. Michigan State and Cincinnati round out the Top Ten.
Wisconsin and Ohio State, Nos. 21 and 22, both returned to the rankings after a one-week absence. SMU, which beat then-No. 7 Cincinnati last week, moved in at No. 23, the Mustangs' first ranking since the next-to-last poll of 1984-85, a season they were ranked as high as No. 2.
Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Gonzaga fell out of the Top 25.
Wichita State appears to have a legitimate shot at finishing the regular season undefeated. The Shockers have games against Southern Illinois, Evansville, Loyola, Drake, Bradley, and Missouri State.
Wichita State should be favored in all of the games before reaching the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
No team has won the national championship with an undefeated record in men's basketball since Indiana led by Bobby Knight in the 1970's.
