Swing State Polling Trending Against Romney
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – More swing state polling released Friday continues to show President Barack Obama holding leads across the country ranging from two points to as much as eight to nine points.
New polling from NBC/Wall Street Journal/Marist gave President Obama leads between seven and eight points in Ohio, New Hampshire, and Iowa. Obama's smallest lead was in Nevada and North Carolina, which were both two point leads, inside the margin of error for the poll.
The overall lead for Obama in the state polls is between four and five points, which is outside the average margin of error for the NBC/WSJ/Marist polls.
Also Friday, a new Fox News poll found Obama to have a five point lead. The Fox News Poll found Obama received support from 48 percent to Romney's 43 percent among likely voters. Among all registered voters, Obama's lead stretches to eight points in the Fox poll.
All of the polling is ahead of the first presidential debate in just five days. For Romney, he needs a major game-changing display at the debates, while Obama, with the current poll numbers, just needs to maintain the status-quo.
If Romney doesn't perform extremely well in the first debate and the presidential election looks like it is slipping away, it could prompt a bout of political Darwinism among the major Republican donor and Super PACS as they turn their focus to shoring up the House of Representatives and Senate races.
But, Romney is a very experienced debate and fared well in the GOP debates earlier this year; so the presidential election is still a long way from being decided.
