Suspicious Package 'Deemed Safe' At Miami-Dade Democratic Party's Office

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- The Miami Police Department deemed a 'suspicious package' sent to the Miami-Dade Democratic Party's office safe on Wednesday afternoon.
Police, fire and the bomb squad raced to the scene at the CIC Miami building at 1951 Northwest 7th Avenue after reports of an "unexpected package."
Chopper 4 was over the area at the CIC Miami building at 1951 Northwest 7th Avenue. Images showed several police cruisers and a bomb squad truck.
Before learning what was in the package, the bomb squad had evacuated the 4th, 5th, and 6th floors for safety reasons.
"At this time the package has been rendered safe by our bomb squad unit and right now we are opening all roads of traffic. We do not want anyone else to be alarmed at this time," said officer Kiara Delva, from the Miami Police Department.
"Given the events of last week, we are on high alert at our office and reported to building management, who notified police, after receiving a package from an unrecognized sender. We are grateful for the first responders and police who work so diligently to keep us safe," said Ricky Junquera, Miami Dade County Democratic Party Vice Chair.
The police response came less than a week after 56-year-old Cesar Sayoc was arrested on charges that he sent improvised explosive devices to prominent Democrats, critics of President Donald Trump and media outlets.
Reports indicated the box contained Senator Bill Nelson bumper stickers.
