Suspect In Custody After Police Chase In Miami Gardens
MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) -- A suspect was hit with a stun gun and taken into custody early Friday morning after he led Miami Gardens police on a chase.
The chase ended at NW 135th Street and 13th Ave.
Police said the man was in a white Jeep Cherokee with a stolen tag parked in a Miami Gardens lot around 5 a.m. Friday.
When an officer went to question the suspect, police said he struggled with the officer, got back in the car, and sped off.
During the ensuing chase, police said the suspect drove the wrong way down the southbound express lane of I-95 near the 125th Street Exit.
But, it's against police policy to chase anyone going the wrong way because it puts the public in danger. It's not known if police continued to pursue the suspect on I-95 or not.
The driver hit a motorcyclist in the area who was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
The Jeep Cherokee was left so badly damaged in the accident and stalling, which made it easier for police to catch up with the driver near the intersection of 135th Street and 13th Avenue in Northwest Miami-Dade County.
Police said that's when the man screamed for officers to shoot him and went to reach under his seat.
Instead, police pulled out a stun gun and used it on the suspect.
It's unclear if the man had a weapon or not under his seat and one officer suffered minor injuries.
