Survey: 1 In 10 Youths Have Been Rejected For Job Over Social Media
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The dangers of social media are well-known from stalking to other crimes. Now, a new study from On Device Research shows how big of a problem social media can yield for job seekers.
According to the On Device Research study, one in ten young people have been rejected from an employee because of their social media profile. But, the study also found that two-thirds of young people aren't concerned their social media use could harm future career prospects.
It's one of the problems that are compounding the crippling unemployment problem around the world. According to the study, roughly 300 million people aged 15-24 are not working or studying, which is approximately one-quarter of the entire youth population on the planet.
In addition, few states protect employees from being fired for what they publish on social media. A total of six states have social media protections to prevent firings.
