Supreme Court Refuses To Lift Stay On Valle Execution
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The U.S. Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi to lift a stay of execution the Florida Supreme Court issued for Manuel Valle.
Valle, 61, has been scheduled for execution by lethal injection next Tuesday for the murder of a Coral Gables police officer Luis Pena 33 years ago. But, the Florida Supreme Court delayed the execution for a month to hold a hearing on the state's lethal injection procedure.
The lethal injection hearing started Thursday and should continue next week. It will determine the safety and effectiveness of a new chemical that Florida plans to use as part of its three-drug lethal injection cocktail.
The new drug that is used in the cocktail replaced one that's no longer made.
