Supermarket Manager Robbed Behind Store

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The images of two of three men who police suspect robbed a woman behind a Miami-Dade supermarket was caught on camera. Now police are hoping those images will help them put the bad guys behind bars.

It happened April 20th around 8 a.m. behind the Presidente Supermarket on Bird Road at SW 40th Street.

The store's manager, 28-year old Yoilys Baez, had just left through the rear door with the day's bank deposits when she was approached by two armed men.  The men snatched Baez's purse which held nearly $16,000.00 in supermarket bank deposits and drove off.

Both the men looked to be in their 40s and they took off in a white Nissan Maxima 2009 – 2012 with a sun roof, according to investigators.

Security cameras from Juan Garcia's medical clinic next door captured images of the men backing up the car and then waiting before the robbed Baez.

"The one man gets out of the back, the other from the front," said Garcia. "He gets up, both are sitting and standing on the right side (of the car)."

Garcia said he heard the cries for help.

"A screaming lady, screaming, then the guy tried to get her purse. She was trying to fight the guy," said Garcia. "Another guy said 'Kill her, kill her' and a guy said 'Shoot her, shoot her'."

"I think it's bad time," Garcia told CBS4's Peter D'Oench. "People are looking for all sorts of money. This was bad this robbery."

The manager of the nearby Rio Crystal Restaurant said the robbery has her concerned.

"It's a little scary because it's happening so close to where we are at," said Ely Acosta. "I believe you should be more aware of your surroundings. Had she not been on her own and had somebody with her, this would have been avoided. It almost looks like they knew something and were waiting around for her. They must have already been watching her."

"You have to be cautious," Acosta said. "You can never be too safe."

Sine the robbery, the supermarket has hired an armed security guard for the front door. Even with the extra level of security, some customers weren't so sure.

"You got to make sure you are watching out for people who may come after you and take your money," said Eugene Madruga.

Garcia said he hopes someone recognizes the men in the video and calls Crime Stoppers or the police.

"I feel the community deserves some sort of peace," said Garcia.

D'Oench tried to see if anyone from the Presidente Supermarket would comment. But the supermarket's new security guard told him that no reporters were being allowed inside the store and that neither Baez nor the other daytime store manager on duty wanted to say anything.

Miami-Dade police have not said if they think the robbers could have had some help from the inside.

Anyone with information on the robbery is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
