Super Moon Over Miami This Weekend

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Wanna get mooned? Sunday is the perfect time because the sky will be lit by a "supermoon", the biggest and brightest full moon of the year.

All you need to do to see the supermoon is to look up at a clear sky.
Not only will it be the largest full moon of the year, it's the closest the moon will come to Earth in all of 2013.

The moon will be closest to Earth at 7:32 a.m. Sunday.

There was a Supermoon in May and another one is coming in July but this Sunday's will appear the largest of all.

Super perigee moons and its gravitational force also affect the oceans and can cause slightly higher tides than normal.

A good time to watch is during moonrise or moonset. At these times, due to reasons astronomers don't fully understand, the moon can appear much larger than when it is higher in the sky.

The moon won't be as close again until August 2014, according to EarthSky.org.

The perigee full moon gets its name because the term perigee describes the moon's closest point to the earth during any month.
