Sunshine State Schools Ready To Go Bowling
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – As the college football regular season wraps up across the nation, the attention of fans everywhere turns to what bowl game will their favorite school end up playing in later in December.
The University of Miami Hurricanes has opted to forego a bowl game in 2011 in anticipation of stiff sanctions from the NCAA for the Nevin Shapiro scandal. But, several Sunshine State schools will be bowling this season.
The Florida State Seminoles finished the season with an 8-4 record and will likely finish in third place in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Based on the selection process, if FSU is the number three ACC team, the Seminoles will be headed to the Champs Sports Bowl on December 29, 2011.
FSU is likely to face a struggling Notre Dame team in the Champs Sports Bowl. It will reignite a rivalry that dates back to 1993 when Notre Dame knocked off eventual national champion FSU.
Florida International University also finished the season with a school-record 8-4 mark. The Panthers will be playing in their second-straight bowl game.
FIU could be eligible for multiple bowls, but right now, the two biggest possibilities are the Hawaii Bowl on December 24 or the Beef O'Brady's Bowl in Tampa on December 20.
FIU could be playing Hawaii, Utah State, or a school like Pittsburgh if FIU ends up in the Beef O'Brady's Bowl.
The Florida Gators will look to make amends for a sub-par season in their 2011 bowl game. The Gators are likely headed to the Chick-fil-A Bowl in Atlanta on December 31.
Florida's opponent will be the loser of the ACC Championship game between Virginia Tech and Clemson.
