FSU Students Lean On Each Other Following Campus Shooting

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami) – Florida State University (FSU) students gathered together Thursday afternoon to remember those who were shot when a gunman stormed the library.
Whether it was a quiet prayer or thousands of students leaning on one another for support, they became "FSU Strong" following the shooting which injured three students and left the gunman dead.

Many barricaded themselves in rooms around the library during the shooting.
Student Alexandra Magoulas from Hialeah and her boyfriend Guillermo from Miramar ran for their lives and hid behind a book shelf.

"The shooter was on our floor, in the lobby, about 50 feet away from us," said Magoulas.
"For the first time you kind of think like, this is real and I'm trying to figure out how to survive this," said student Guillermo Page.
Sarah Evans from Kendall was inside when it happened. She recorded video and came across Nathan Scott who was hit by a bullet.

"It wasn't until a victim lying on the ground yelled out, there's a gun in the library! I've been shot! That I realized there was a victim bleeding," said Evans.
Her father was on the phone with her during the shooting in which police said Myron May, an FSU alum who's an attorney, walked up to the building with a loaded 380 semi-auto and a pocket full of bullets.

Investigators said he shot two students outside, then hit Scott in the lobby. That's when police said he reloaded and walked back outside to officers who had the place surrounded.
"He refused to surrender. As a result of this encounter, Mr. May is shot and killed by police officers," said Tallahassee Police Chief Michael DeLeo.
Now the lingering question is why. Why did he do it? Why the library?
"We're kind of struggling. Some of us are shaken up. I know I still am, but we're unconquered. We'll be strong. We'll get through this," said student Kayla Burnett.
FSU's president said the Nole Nation is strong and will rebound from this together. He is calling for a return to normalcy so classes will resume Friday and the library will re-open Friday at 9:00 a.m.
Of the three students injured, two remain in the hospital.
