Strong Storms Possible Ahead Of Cold Front
MIAMI (CBS4) -- Enjoy the warm weather while you can because potentially strong storms are on the way ahead of another cold front. A strong low pressure system soaking the Southeast and portions of North Florida is racing to the East and the associated cold front will increase our rain chances throughout the day, according to CBS4 Meteorologist Lissette Gonzalez.
Ahead of the front, South Florida woke up Tuesday to windy weather due to high pressure to the northeast and low pressure to the west.
Sustained winds ranging from 15 to 20 miles per hour, gusting up to and even over 30 miles per hour in some spots, will lead to rough and dangerous conditions out on the water. A small craft advisory is in effect and there is a high risk of rip currents so it will not be safe to go swimming.

Tuesday, it's been a cloudy, muggy morning with temperatures in the low 70s. A few light showers and sprinkles are already bubbling up due to the strong onshore flow. Temperatures will climb into the upper 70s Tuesday afternoon and the combination of the warmth and moisture that will be funneled in across the area will lead to a very juicy, unstable atmosphere.
Showers and storms are likely Tuesday afternoon, and especially Tuesday night and into Wednesday morning with the potential for strong storms capable of producing heavy downpours, lightning and strong gusty winds. There is even the slight risk of severe weather.
Once the front clears the state, South Florida is in for big changes as a drier air mass moves in and high pressure sends cooler air down the peninsula. Temperatures will drop drastically by Thursday morning with lows possibly in the mid to upper 40s.
South Florida will end the week with chilly mornings and cool and sunny afternoons with highs in the upper 60s on Friday, then milder highs in the low 70s this weekend.
