String Of Temperature Records Set In Fort Lauderdale
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – South Florida has been feeling the heat lately with afternoon high temperatures reaching the upper 80s and lower 90s, but it's not the afternoon highs that have been setting records, it's the morning lows.
Fort Lauderale has set a record for a high minimum temperature (in the morning) or tied it for four days in a row. While the temperature soared through the afternoon, the morning temperature didn't drop to the average which is typically around 72 degrees.
From the National Weather Service:
Fort Lauderdale
April 28, 29, and 30, the temperature during the morning reached 79 breaking old records of 78 degrees for those days in 1991 and 2011.
Also, on May 1, 79 degrees was recorded again breaking the old record of 77 degrees set in 2004.
The 79 degree temperature readings tied the warmest low temperature for the month of April for three consecutive days.
Miami
The morning temperature reached 79 degrees on April 30 which broke the old record for a high minimum temperature of 78 in 1991.
Miami also tied the high minimum temperature for the month of April.
Key West
April 30, Key West tied the record at 81 degrees and then broke the record May 1 with another 81 degree reading.
The forecast is to remain warm and steamy in South Florida, but rain is also forecast for the first weekend of May.
