Stretch Of Kendall Drive Shutdown After School Bus Crash
KENDALL (CBSMiami) – A stretch of Kendall Drive has been shutdown in both directions near Dadeland Mall, just east of Galloway Road following a school bus accident that brought down power lines into the road and shut down power to thousands of people in the area for a short time.
The accident took place between a car and a school bus at Kendall Drive and 82nd Avenue.
Two students who attend Miami Killian Senior High were on the bus at the time of the crash, according to Miami-Dade School Board Police. The students were not hurt and their parents picked them up from the scene and took them to school.
In video from Chopper 4, the bus careened into the power pole in the east bound lanes and a car with its front end smashed was in the west bound lanes.
All lanes remains closed between 80th Avenue and 82nd Avenue.
When the power line came down, about 17,000 customers lost power but FPL restored power to 10,000 customers within minutes and the other 7,000 customers had power restored in under an hour.
Kendall Drive will remain shutdown in both directions throughout the day as FPL works on replacing the power pole.
