Street Closures For Fort Lauderdale's St. Patrick's Parade & Festival
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Drivers may need to find alternate routes around Fort Lauderdale Saturday and Sunday for the Fort Lauderdale St. Patrick's Parade and Festival.
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Huizenga Plaza and along Las Olas Boulevard in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
The roads impacted Saturday March 8, include:
Southeast S.E. 1st Avenue, from E. Las Olas Boulevard to the south side of the FAU/BC Tower parking lot driveway will be closed from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.
East Las Olas Boulevard from S.E. 1st Avenue to S.E. 8th Avenue will be closed from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
S.W. 1st Avenue in the Las Olas Riverfront complex and S.W. 2nd Street from Andrews Avenue to S.W. 2nd Avenue will be closed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The eastbound lanes of North New River Drive East will be closed from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. During this time, residents of the Watergarden and the Las Olas Grand condominiums are to use SE 3rd Avenue/SE 4th Street to enter and exit. Residents of the Las Olas River House condominiums are to use SE 3rd Avenue/New River Center parking garage driveway to enter and exit.
The intersections of E. Las Olas Boulevard and S.E. 2nd, 3rd and 6th Avenues will be closed from 11:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. These avenues are anticipated to remain open for north and southbound traffic until 11:15 a.m.
Business and residential traffic south of E. Las Olas Boulevard and west of US 1/Federal Highway should use S.E. 3rd Avenue and S.E. 4th Street to enter and exit the neighborhood, approaching from SE 6th Street on SE 3rd Avenue.
Business and residential traffic south of E. Las Olas Boulevard and east of US 1/Federal Highway should use S.E. 8th Avenue or S.E. 11th Avenue to enter and exit the neighborhood.
Residents who live directly inside a closure will still be allowed to and from their homes but may need to use a detoured route. Traffic congestion and delays in and around the detoured areas should be expected throughout the day on Saturday.
The Fort Lauderdale St. Patrick's Parade & Festival marches into downtown on Saturday, March 8 to celebrate all things Irish!
This year's event promises to be bigger and better than ever, highlighted by a colorful parade, live music, great food, outstanding entertainment, and a special visit by the national "9/11 Never Forget Mobile Exhibit."
Kickoff festivities begin at 10 a.m. at Huizenga Plaza (32 E. Las Olas Boulevard) with the Joe Dougherty Band, a Drumline competition, and plenty of fun and games for the kids.
An official welcome from Fort Lauderdale Mayor John P. "Jack" Seiler will take place at 11 am followed by a traditional Irish Blessing and the 3rd Annual "Running of the Leprechauns." The parade begins at noon along Las Olas Boulevard and will feature decorative floats, pipe and drum corps, classic automobiles, bagpipers, marching bands, Irish dancers, and more!
Following the parade, stick around for the best Irish celebration in town as the festival continues until 7 pm in Huizenga Plaza and along the Riverwalk with live music and entertainment.
