Stowaway Found On Cuba Flight To Miami
MIAMI (CBSMimai) - A man is in custody after he arrived at Miami International Airport stowed away in the belly of the plane from Havana.
This happened on a Swift Airlines flight that landed at MIA around midnight. A ramp agent spotted the 26-year-old man while offloading baggage. He was detained untilU.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrived.
A couple, also from Cuba, who arrived at MIA said they were not all that surprised and were sympathetic.
"Cuba? Anybody can be paid off that's what I think," said Aurora Pumarievo.
"There's no wet, foot dry foot. He's desperate enough to try to do that, I came from Cuba in 1961 so I know what that means, I feel for him but I don't know what's gonna happen to him," said Evelio Pumarievo.
The man was refused entry and was processed as a stowaway.
In a statement, Customs and Border Protection said, "CBP officers remain vigilant to arrest persons trying to elude detection in violation of federal law."
