Stop & Shop Robbery Caught On Tape

TAMARAC (CBS4) - A Tamarac convenience store robbery was caught on tape, now the Broward Sheriff's Office is hoping someone recognizes the man who terrorized the clerk with a gun before making off with cash and cigars.

The robbery happened on January 6 at 10:15 p.m., but the Sheriff's office has just released store surveillance video which shows the chilling moments of the crime.

"It's frightening.  The guy is holding the gun to his head, waving it around, and any minute the gun could go off," says BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella.  "I think it happened in under a minute, he's in and he's out."

The store manager calmly hands over the cash.  You can see the robber steal cigars and then wrap the loot in a large black cloth and run out of the store.

The robber was dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt with yellow trim and yellow words written on the front.  He concealed his face with a handkerchief during the crime.

"That's not the first time it's happened," says longtime customer Cheryl Brown.  Brown says she was in the store buying a soda when another assailant robbed the manager.

"He was putting the money in a bag.  I asked him if he was alright.  He says yes, I'm just trying to keep the confrontation down," said Brown. "He just doesn't seem to be afraid of anything, he just keeps on.  He says he's not gonna let these people run him off."

Another customer Mark Rivera says he was disappointed that the manager was held up again but understands why the manager keeps working.

"You gotta make a living, feed his family.  He has to keep it open, what's he gonna do?" said Rivera.

Anyone who knows anything about this robbery is asked to call BSO Robbery Detective Fred Anderson at (954) 321-4270 or call Crime Stoppers of Broward County at (954) 493-TIPS or online at browardcrimestoppers.org.
