"Stench Of Decomposed Body" Leads To Mutilation, Murder Arrest

HIALEAH (CBSMiami) -- A Hialeah man has been arrested and charged with the murder and mutilation of another man whose body parts were found scattered near train tracks and his mother was caught trying to clean up the scene of the crime, according to Hialeah police.
Homicide detectives charged William Martinez Thursday morning. His victim, who police have not identified pending next-of-kin notification, was 60-years old. His dismembered remains were found Wednesday, July 13th, near train tracks at the area of Palm Ave/21 St, Hialeah.
According to the arrest affidavit, surveillance video from a neighboring business captured a man walking from a nearby apartment complex at 33 W 22 St., towards the tracks and he's seen throwing an object on the tracks.

When police went to the nearby apartment complex to investigate, they spotted Martinez sitting in a chair outside
They also found the same kind of garbage bag used to dump the body parts near his apartment and "there was a strong stench consistent with that of a decomposed body," states the report.
When police checked out Apartment 4, they found Martinez' mother, Juana Betancourt, cleaning the apartment and "a strong smell consistent with a decomposing body emerging from the apartment." They also saw several cleaning products and "a serrated blade soaking in an unknown liquid."
Their search also discovered "a bar-b-que with a strong smell of a decomposing body emanating from within."
Martinez' mother stated "her son told her he killed (REDACTED) inside the bedroom of the residence, dismembered his body, and stored his body parts inside her bar-b-que and garbage tank at the rear of her apartment. He also told her he dumped the body parts at the train tracks."
Police said Martinez and the victim knew each other and this crime appears to be the result of a heated argument between the two.
Martinez was arrested and booked into jail.
