Steering You Right: I-95 Construction This Week
MIAMI (CBS4) - Construction cones and crews will be all over I-95 this week.
That's because up to three northbound lanes will be closed nightly from the Golden Glades interchange in Miami-Dade all the way up to Sunrise Boulevard in Broward County. Expect the overnight closures until Friday morning.
Drivers on U.S. 27 in western Broward will note there's a "variable speed zone." The idea is to get traffic to slow down, way down, by the time it gets to a 15 mile per hour school zone.
"It gradually lowers the speed as the vehicles approach the school zone and it allows us to raise the speed limit back up when there's no school," said the Florida Department of Transportation's Daniel Smith.
The speed zone change is by West Broward High School in Pembroke Pines. Not only will the speed limit change in the morning and afternoon when school begins and lets out, it will also change during big events, like football games and evening activities.
And another project finished, this time on the Dolphin Expressway. The eastbound exit ramp to NW 17th avenue was shut down all weekend so crews could demolish the toll plaza.
Well that ramp is now open and the tolls are gone!
