State Votes To Increase FCAT Scores

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – It's going to be a little bit tougher starting next year to pass the Florida Comprehensive Test after the state Board of Education approved a new set of passing scores for the test.

The score needed to pass the FCAT 10th grade reading exam will now be 245 points. A panel of education and community leaders had recommended slightly lower score. In addition, scores were re-set for math sections of the FCAT.

Education leaders said the increase in scores will help Florida students be properly prepared for college and a career. Some who opposed the score increases said the scores are being set too high and that more children will fail.

The board passed the changes unanimously during a Monday morning conference call.
