Starving Baby Birds Rescued From Vacant S. Fla. Attic

MIAMI (CBS4) - Several non-native baby birds rescued from a vacant home are recovering at the Wildlife Center of South Florida after being found starving and dehydrated.

The White-eyed Conures, also known as White-eyed Parakeets, were in the attic of the house with the entrance blocked, leaving the birds' mother unable to feed them.

A neighbor heard the chirping and was able to rescue and take them to the center for treatment.

"It's fantastic. We can't save everything but the ones that we do get our hands on it's great to see them thrive and be able to go to good homes," said Wildlife Center employee Jessica Sayer.

Officials at the center say the birds have recovered but are not native to the area, so they cannot be released into the wild.

All the birds are expected to be adopted out.
