Starving, Abused Horses Rescued From Miami Gardens Facility
MIAMI GARDENS (CBSMiami) – A pair of severely abused horses were rescued over the weekend from a boarding facility in Miami Gardens.
The South Florida Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said the horses were inside a stable at the facility which had been nailed shut. They literally had to tear it down to reach them.
The two paint horses, a gelding and a mare, were painfully thin. But that was not the worst of it.
"Left without water, the horses were eating wood and their own manure (feces) in order to survive," said Laurie Waggoner, director of ranch operations for SFSPCA.
The horses are now being cared for at the SFSPCA's ranch facility and a special fund has been set up to help with their care.
