Sports Agenda For Tuesday (4/19/11)
Big Story:
If you weren't sure the Heat's first round series was essentially over, Game 2 put all doubt to bed. Watching the Heat game last night was essentially like watching the Harlem Globetrotters against the Washington Generals.
The 76ers couldn't stay on the court with the Heat from the opening tip, and never got closer than 13 in the second half. It was a complete demolition by the Heat, specifically LeBron and Bosh. But more on that in a bit.
The Marlins battle the Bucs tonight and mediation continues for the NFL lockout.
Let's hit the agenda.
Heat: (Game 3, Thursday 8:00 p.m. Sun Sports HD/TNT)
The Heat looked like the team everyone expected them to be all season. They came out and played stellar defense and completely shutdown the 76ers. 76ers power forward Elton Brand disappeared for much of the game, as did most of the rest of the team.
At one point, the only 76er who was playing competitively was rookie Evan Turner.
The Heat shutdown the lane and prevented the 76ers from driving to the basket and forced them to take jumpshots from the perimeter.
Now, the series shifts to Philadelphia.
The Heat should be able to take both games in Philly and take a much needed break before facing their likely second round opponent, the Boston Celtics.
By the way, if you didn't see the alley-oop that LeBron hit last night, check it out here. It Was LeNasty!
Marlins: (vs. Pittsburgh Pirates, 7:10 p.m.)
The Marlins look to right the ship after a loss at Philadelphia on Sunday with what should be a very winnable series against the Pirates tonight.
The Pirates haven't been competitive since the early 1990's when the Braves first started their run of excellence.
It will be important to see if the Marlins can get the batting order firing on all cylinders, specifically Hanley Ramirez and Mike Stanton. The power hitters have been anything but so far this year, so they need a good series to really get back into the swing of things. (pardon the pun)
The Marlins are going to be at home for a 9 game home stand starting tonight.
NFL:
There's more mediation meetings today, but so far, no progress is being reported. Hopefully that will change, but I'm not holding my breath.
I hope to have the CBSMiami.com mock draft completed this week. The draft starts next Thursday.
Wouldn't it be nice if the two sides cut a deal to allow free agency to start and make the draft more fun before next Thursday?
Yeah, and it would be nice if I had supermodels as my neighbors.
