Sports Agenda for Monday (9/17/12)

Big Story:
"The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth; and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up" Revelation 7:7 So, yeah, when I saw that the Miami Hurricanes and Miami Dolphins both won this weekend, I started getting mighty nervous the Mayans were right and the end is nigh. My college and pro football thoughts in today's agenda!

Quote of the Day:
Not necessarily a quote, just an interesting factoid. I was watching the Hitler History Channel about Pearl Harbor. Turns out, FDR was sick with a sinus infection on December 7. After news of the attack got there, he started in on his duties. But, he didn't want to speak before Congress or the American people sounding sick. Since no antibiotics were available, his doctor gave him the treatment of the day to help sinus infections….cocaine. It was a small dosage, but fascinating nonetheless.

Miami Dolphins:
Hello running game!
After spending most of the preseason and Week 1 deviating from the strength of the team, Miami finally found the running game.
Way to go coaches….six weeks later.
Reggie Bush..he's a man, he's not quite 40 though.
Seriously, he was in full-on beast mode yesterday running through Oakland's defense like Houston ran through Miami's.
It was funny, this is how downtrodden the Dolphins have become….I told my wife yesterday the Fins were winning in the first half…her response? "It's early."
Now, after I stopped laughing, well, I couldn't stop laughing.
But kudos to the Dolphins for getting off the proverbial schnide.
And for the thousands of people there, and in the first half that crowd was pretty sparse..it was a good win.
Ryan Tannehill was a game manager just like we expected him to be, but he did make some good throws…..and some boneheaded throws that good cornerbacks would have taken the other way.
Still, a win is a win no matter how you get it.
But….
Let's remember, this is the Raiders….the proverbial doormat of the AFC. So let's not anoint anyone just yet.
The Fins welcome in the Jets on Sunday….I really dislike the Jets, well, mainly their talk without ever having backed it up mainly.
I've got no problem with someone talking, but if you can't back it up, a la the Jets, then it's annoying and pretty stupid.
I bet the taste of grass left in their mouth by the Steelers kept them up last night.
But, it's the return of TEBOW…..to Miami. Last time he was here he led an improbable comeback.
Unless he can do that on special teams, I don't see it happening this year.
Elsewhere around the NFL…
Houston's defense is nasty.
New England….miss Adam Vinatieri?
Tampa Bay….nice sportsmanship there after getting thumped in the second half by the G-men. Classless move on Schiano's part.
Cam Newton, welcome back to the running game.
Cleveland….Matt Barkley should be on the way…though after Saturday, that may not be a great thing either.
Quick quiz…who will have more wins, Stanford….or Andrew Luck's Colts.
Dallas Cowboys….nice to meet you, your seat is over there for the 2013 NFL Draft.
Yes, the 49ers are really, really good.
Buffalo….I don't know what to make of you.
New Orleans….bounties suck when you get caught. Man, they really, REALLY miss Sean Payton on the sidelines.

College Football:
I think it's safe to say after last weekend's absolute mauling of Wake Forest….the Seminoles are back!
There's beating a team, murdering a team, and just flat out mauling them.
FSU did it all to Wake, much in the same way that Alabama slaughtered Arkansas.
Speaking of the Razorbacks, hard to believe one affair could bring down a program that fast huh?
You live by the Petrino, you die by the Petrino. Coincidentally, somewhere every member of his Atlanta Falcons team he walked out on are laughing uncontrollably right now every time Arkansas plays….kinda like the rest of us.
Cal…almost beat the fighting Urbans….soooooo close.
But can we get over one thing right now…..Notre Dame is not back.
Beating the tar out of a Big Ten team is akin to beating the tar out of a Conference USA team.
Yes, you read that right.
The Big Ten is the most overrated conference year in and year out and for no reason.
Another thing…..the University of Miami.
For the 27 fans at the game on Saturday, yes that was HORRIBLY embarrassing seeing that crowd, they missed Duke Johnson, aka Miami's offense, run wild.
He's going to be something special…but he probably played in front of bigger crowds in high school.
Seriously, where are the UM fans?
That was shameful to have that few fans in the stands. Yes, I know the stadium sucks, I know it's in the middle of nowhere near your campus, but c'mon man.
Looks like pride at "The U" only counts when they are winning national championships.
Man, I really wish I could have experienced a game at the Orange Bowl back in the day.
FIU…nice knowing you, see you next season for Conference USA.
Colorado….dear lord what happened. 69 points given up to Fresno State….55 at halftime? Seriously, FSU had 665 yards of total offense, including 377 passing and 288 rushing. That's just pathetic for a PAC-12 team.
My Missouri Tigers….three heart attacks later, they won on an interception that should have been a perfect throw to a guy in blown coverage. Much like the Dolphins a win is a win….now they get The Ol' Ball Coach in South Carolina…..I think I hear the players already saying…MOMMY!!!
Here's my Top 5:
1. Alabama
2. LSU
3. Florida State
4. Oregon
5. Georgia/West Virginia
Heisman Trophy:
1. Geno Smith
2. Still to be determined.

Marlins:
Oh who cares at this point…even Ozzie Guillen said they suck the other day.

Heat:
About two weeks until training camp for the only championship team in South Florida set to play this year!

Panthers:
Behold the Gary Bettman lockout Part 3!
