Spirit Air's Computers Back Online After Glitch
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBS4) - On one of the busiest air travel days of the year, the unthinkable happened to Miramar-based Spirit Airlines – their computers crashed nationwide for several hours.
Not missing a beat Spirit, which had already added more personnel to the 'front lines' at the airport to minimize delays, checked in passengers in based on departure times, instead of first come-first served, so no one will miss their flight.
Spirit passengers lined up at Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport had their check-in bags tagged by hand and were given hand written boarding passes. All of Spirits flights departed on time Wednesday morning despite the problem.
"All flights are operating and we have not had any cancellations. We are very proud of our employees for stepping up and ensuring that our customers are checked in without an automated system," Spirit Airlines spokeswoman Misty Pinson told CNN.
Spirit had the computer systems back up and operational by early Wednesday afternoon and no delays from glitch were reported in Ft. Lauderdale.
