Special Operations Command South Headquarters Opens

HOMESTEAD (CBSMiami) – The new Special Operations Command South headquarters in Homestead officially opened Friday with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

Army Lt. Gen. Charles T. Cleveland, the commander of U.S. Army Special Operations Command, cut the ribbon with a knife delivered from the U.S. Army Parachute Team ""Golden Knights".

The multi-million dollar, three-story facility is designed to house more than 400 service members and civilians representing all branches of the armed forces.

The facility was built on land leased from Miami-Dade County next to Homestead Air Reserve Base.

The location was chosen because of its proximity to the U.S. Southern Command headquarters in Doral.
