Special July 4th Citizenship Ceremony At Homestead Speedway
HOMESTEAD (CBS4) – This Independence Day will be one that several members of the armed forces will never forget as they are sworn in as U.S. citizens in Homestead.
The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) will hold a special naturalization ceremony at the Homestead-Miami Speedway for seven members of the military from the US Coast Guard, US Navy, US Marines and US Army.
The USCIS said nearly 2,300 candidates have become citizens at approximately 30 ceremonies held across the country and around the world from June 29th to July 1st.
The special 'swearing in' ceremony will be part of Homestead's annual 4th of July celebration "Race to the 4th."
The event, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., features live music, children's activities, food and drinks, games and, of course, a classic July 4th fireworks show.
"Last year we had over 10,000 people share the birthday of our nation with us, and it was the most moving experience to remember our freedom and those who have fought for it under the amazing light of the fireworks," said Vice-Mayor Judy Waldman in a statement. "I have been attending the Fourth of July Homestead Celebration since I was a little girl, and each year it is even better. I am excited to be sharing this holiday with our residents again."
Admission to the Race to the Fourth is free.
