South Florida Team Wins Key West Sailfish Championship
KEY WEST (CBS4) - KEY WEST – Tight lines, fair weather and a bit of luck helped an angling team out of South Florida win top honors in the million-dollar Key West World Sailfish Championship.
Miami's Neil Orange, who skippered the Sandman, won the tournament with 17 sailfish catch-and-releases during three days of fishing. His team consisted of boat owner Sandra MacMillan from Fort Lauderdale; Jason Roe from Fort Lauderdale; Domie Adames of Miami and Robby Waddick, Corey Ryan and Wes Stevens, all of Pompano Beach. Orange and his team took home $255,785 at the end of competition on Saturday.
Lights Out, captained by Chester Sims of Key Largo, placed second with 14 fish.
Third place went to Conched Out/Team Sea Hunter, skippered by Corey McBride of Lighthouse Point with 12 releases.
MacMillan was named top female angler.
Organizers said anglers on 71 boats released 335 sailfish.
