South Florida Events Remember Fallen On Memorial Day
MIAMI (CBS4) -South Florida spent the day honoring fallen heroes this Memorial Day.
The fallen were honored at Griffin Park in North Miami.
Everyone from a us southern command captain to boy scouts participated in the days festivities.
In Hialeah, city officials and the veteran's affairs board invited everyone to Triangle Park.
"We don't do this for politics," said one soldier. "We care about the men the soldier next to you. Doesn't matter where it is, doesn't matter where it is.
In Pompano Beach, 6,300 American flags lined federal highway in Pompano Beach, a reminder placed there by the Disabled American's Gold Coast Chapter.
In Miami Beach. the city, American Legion Post 85 and the VFW Post 3559 honored those who gave the ultimate sacrifice by holding a wreath laying ceremony.
In Deerfield Beach, the American Legion Post 287 organized three Memorial Day celebrations at separate locations throughout the city. A motorcade led revelers from one location to the next. A prayer service, wreath ceremony and 21 gun salute capped off festivities honoring service men and women.
"it's for god and country," said veteran Jack Murphy.
"there are guys who didn't come back," said veteran Ed Hammonds gesturing toward Jack Murphy. "He's one of the lucky ones"
