South Florida Continues To Dry Out From Monday's Rain
MIAMI (CBS4) – One day after Mother Nature pounded Miami-Dade and Broward with relentless rains, drier air and cooler temperatures have moved in to help South Florida dry out.
Flooding rains damaged at least three dozens homes in the county and more than 50 neighborhoods still had water in the streets on Tuesday.
"Right now you're looking at a health hazard; nothing being done," said Sandy Hall. "I'm really reaching my boiling point. I have to deal with this."
In Ft. Lauderdale, more than 30 people spent the night at a Red Cross shelter after rain and floodwaters made their residences uninhabitable.
Officials are still using pumps to try to suction water out of underground parking garages that flooded underneath several condos.
"My wife and I are renting cars," said Frank Arthur, who had two cars flooded. "We'll have them checked out to see what they're gonna do."
In all, the Red Cross helped more than 300 people over the last day or two, many of those people are struggling due to the Great Recession.
"These are tough economic times," said Red Cross worker Sofia Santana. "All it takes is on incident. It would be devastating for a family.
This will be a long slow recovery for some who were either under insured or were renters who had no insurance.
