Heat Sign Luol Deng For 2-Years, $20 Million
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Heat are not letting the loss of LeBron James stop them from continuing to pursue NBA championships.
CBS Sports has learned that the Heat has signed free-agent forward Luol Deng to a 2-year deal worth $20 million. The second year would give Deng a player option.
Deng had been weighing his options over the past week, receiving heavy interest from Miami, Dallas and Atlanta.
In the end, Deng choose to sign with Miami and be a part of the post-LeBron era. With Deng in the lineup, the Heat has a team that can compete with the other elite teams in the Eastern Conference.
Last season with Chicago and Cleveland Deng played in 63 games, averaging 16.0 points and 5.7 rebounds. He is a defensive-minded player that will fit in nicely with Heat coach Erik Spoelstra's system.
Deng joins Danny Granger and Josh McRoberts as new additions to Miami, with Granger and McRoberts expected to officially sign contracts sometime this week.
The Heat has also re-signed Chris Bosh to a five-year, $118 million contract and are nearing deals with Dwyane Wade, Chris Andersen and Udonis Haslem, according to Yahoo Sports.
