Something Extra: Secret Recipes
MIAMI (CBS4) - I've never understood people who don't like to share their recipes, but you can't blame major corporations that protect their profits by keeping their secret recipes under lock and key.
But now, McDonald's Executive Chef, Dan Coudreaut, has let the cat out of the bag, sharing the ingredients for the Big Mac's special sauce.
It's mostly mayo, mustard and sweet relish, with some white wine vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder and paprika added in.
I'm lovin' it.
The two most famous secret recipes, though, remain mostly mysteries.
KFC mixes the spices for its finger-lickin'-good fried chicken in different locations and Colonel Sanders' handwritten secret recipe is safely locked away in KFC's vault.
Then there's the biggie: the formula for Coca-Cola.
Only a handful of executives have known it since Coke was invented in the late eighteen hundreds. The formula is now in a vault that's visible to visitors to the World of Coca-Cola exhibit in Atlanta.
Ironically, U.S. Coke is made with high-fructose corn syrup, while in other countries it's made with sugar. A lot of people prefer that, so it's easy to find imported Coke here in South Florida.
My son is always asking that I buy him Mexican Coke... so much for secret formulas.
