Something Extra: Florida's Booziest Cities
MIAMI (CBS4) - When you think of cities where people might drink too much, you probably think of nightlife hot spots: Key West... Miami Beach. Well, think again.
U.S. News and World Report has served up its top ten list of America's drunkest cities and the Conch Republic and South Beach are nowhere to be found.
Florida still manages to dominate the list, but with three cities you'd expect to be boring because they're retirement meccas.
The Palm Bay-Melbourne area took second place, with 9.1% of people reporting they drink heavily. Only Reno, Nevada has more.
In seventh place is Naples- Marco Island, with heavy drinkers making up 8.5% of the population.
Cape Coral was ninth with 8.1%.
Oddly, they're all cities that have far more senior citizens than the national average.
That's not to say the seniors are doing the drinking. It may just be people are bored out their minds because there there's not much to do.
In fact, there's no rhyme or reason to the list, because very young cities, including Austin, Texas and Boulder, Colorado are on it.
