Something Extra: Fast Food Nation
MIAMI (CBS4) - And while I'm no fan of excessive government regulation, I'm all for the new rules that will soon require all restaurant chains that have more than twenty locations to post calorie information.
McDonald's is getting out ahead of those rules, announcing that it will put calorie numbers on restaurant and drive-through menus, starting Monday.
Sure, that information is available online, but who really checks? This way people will easily be able to make informed decisions about what and how much they eat.
It's a much smarter way to do it than the proposal in New York City to just ban all sugary drinks of more than sixteen ounces.
I say empower consumers with information and let them decide.
There are few things I love more than a large Chick-Fil-A chocolate milkshake. But then I found out they had about seven hundred and fifty calories. I didn't stop drinking them, but I switched to the smaller size and I now make sure to eat less of other things whenever I have a shake.
If the chains help us eat better, most of us probably will... well, at least a little better.
