Something Extra: Facebook Final Words?

MIAMI (CBS4) - A lot of people spend their lives on Facebook... now, they can end their lives there.

A new app, called "If I Die," is allowing Facebook users to update their friends on the biggest possible change in status... their death... with a self-recorded video farewell.

The YouTube video promoting the app says you can't schedule when you're going to die, but morbidly reminds you the grim reaper could be just around the corner.  So it gives you the opportunity to make sure you get in your last words by recording them.

You would name your most trusted Facebook friends as trustees and, when they confirm your demise, your final Facebook posting would be published on your wall for all to see.

My first reaction was to roll my eyes, thinking this was just another invasion by technology into our privacy.

But then I thought of how wonderful it would be to have recordings of people I've loved who have passed and to hear some final words of their wisdom and humor.

That sounds like a great idea.
