Soggy Sunday Across South Florida

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A soggy Sunday for South Florida as an upper air disturbance over the eastern Gulf of Mexico is helping to increase thunderstorms along a tropical wave just reaching our area.

As the wave continues to push west, storms are likely into Monday with some downpours, gusty winds, and frequent lightning.

As with any summer thunderstorm event, CBS4 meteorologist Craig Setzer said there is the possibility for some local flooding, especially since some computer models are suggesting up to six inches of rain is possible in spots.

The soaking rain was too much for the roof of one Lauderhill apartment building.

Lauderhill police spokeswoman Contance Stanley said their fire rescue crews were set to the building at 1700 NW 46th Avenue after they received reports that the ceilings in a number of units had collapsed.

She said residents of six apartments had to be re-located, thankfully no one was hurt.

At the height of the rainy conditions, nearly two thousand people across South Florida temporarily lost power.
