Soggy Start To the Week
KEY WEST (CBS4) - A wet and messy morning greeted South Floridians as plenty of rain soaked the area. The rain came from a short wave of energy moving in from the Gulf of Mexico that took the showers and thunderstorms with it into the Atlantic waters.
Temperatures are expected to warm up in the afternoon thanks to breaks in the clouds throughout the day.
This will help increase the instability in the atmosphere, combined with another short wave moving into the area, will lead to an active afternoon of showers and thunderstorms throughout the later part of the day.
The storms may be strong to severe with the potential for lightning, gusty winds up to 50 mph and a small chance of hail later in the day Monday. Some storms may produce heavy downpours that could lead to isolated flooding.
Some leftover moisture could lead to a few lingering showers overnight.
High pressure builds in through midweek and the humidity levels will drop along as drier air moves in. Highs will remain warm with the upper 80s, but the breeze will increase to take a bit of the edge off the heat.
Temperatures will feel more like spring than summer by the end of the week.
