Snow & Ice Tying Up Flights In Northeast
NEW YORK (CBSMiami) – If you're flying in or out of the northeastern United States, keep a book or computer handy because you could be in for some lengthy delays.
Another winter storm was plowing through the Atlantic coast and bringing heavy snow to areas like Philadelphia and New York City. The resulting airline delays are tying up traffic at airports in most major cities on the East Coast.
According to Flightstats.com, there have been 1,275 flights canceled and 1,142 flights delayed as of 10:45 a.m. Monday. New York's LaGuardia Airport had the most arrival and departure cancellations, followed by Newark Liberty International, and Philadelphia International.
Flightaware.com reported that Newark International is experiencing departure delays of about a half-hour and inbound flights are being delayed at their origin by an average of 3 hours and 18 minutes. LaGuardia was reporting inbound flights delayed at their origin by an average of 2 hours 45 minutes.
Philadelphia International Airport had the longest delays with inbound flights delayed at their origin by an average of 4 hours and 8 minutes. All of the delays were due to snow and ice.
In South Florida, Miami International Airport reported nine arrival cancellations and 34 arrival delays along with seven departure cancellations and 23 departure delays. Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International reported 12 departure cancellations and 16 departure delays.
