Smoking In Bed Leads To Deadly Pompano Fire
POMPANO BEACH (CBS4) - A Pompano Beach man was killed early Monday morning after a smoky fire ripped through his ground floor apartment.
Pompano Beach Fire Rescue was called to the Coral Reef Apartments on SE 10th Street just after midnight after someone spotted smoke coming from one of the units. Arriving firefighters forced their way through the front door and found 62-year old Robert Ryan unconscious in a chair. They pulled the man from the burning apartment and rushed him to Imperial Point Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Firefighters were able to keep the flames confined to Ryan's apartment and no other injuries were reported. Pompano Beach fire inspectors have determined the cause of the fire to be smoking materials in the bed.
